So, for the longest time, I included Thrones, Dominations in my mental and emotional classification as “canon Lord Peter novels”. There’s enough Sayers in it (mostly the amazing opening and the first half of the book) that it feels real to me. However, the second half has always been a pale, pale imitation of Strong Poison, with so many cheap fanfictional tropes that as JPW has continued to “add” books to the series, I’m less and less inclined to truly count it. (And there’s the fact that Sayers beautifully bookends the whole series from Whose Body to Busman’s Honeymoon by having Lord Peter’s first and last recorded lines be “Oh, damn”. That kind of artistry can’t be discarded!)
So, I think at this point, I’ll regard Thrones, Dominations as a lovely fragment, and I’m grateful for JPW and the publishers for at least publishing what we got - that much Sayers is still worthwhile, even with the tacked on stuff. But I don’t think I’ll regard it as the “last book” in the series anymore.
"You want to be consistent, you want to look pretty, you want to swagger debonairly through a comedy of puppets or else to stalk magnificently through a tragedy of human sorrows and things. But that’s childish. If you’ve any duty to society in the way of finding out the truth about murders, you must do it in any attitude that comes handy. You want to be elegant and detached? That’s all right, if you find the truth out that way, but it hasn’t any value in itself, you know. You want to look dignified and consistent – what’s that got to do with it? You want to hunt down a murderer for the sport of the thing and then shake hands with him and say, “Well played, hard luck, you shall have your revenge tomorrow!” Well, you can’t do it like that. Life’s not a football match. You want to be a sportsman. You can’t be a sportsman. You’re a responsible person."

Charles Parker to Lord Peter Wimsey (Whose Body, Dorothy L. Sayers)
Charles Parker fan for life. I know that Sayers seems to have gotten a bit annoyed with him, and thus replaced him with Harriet, but I love him, and am so glad he got a great last book in Murder Must Advertise before Gaudy Night and Busman’s Honeymoon.
you ever think of the batkids ages and then realize there is no point because they change so often?
before i start let me say math has never been my strong point but please correct me if i’m wrong i’m all about constructive criticism
like, in the 80s or w/e dick was 18/19 when he became nightwing and shortly after that bruce found jason boosting his tires who was around 12/13 at the time so you would think that would make jason and dick 5/6ish years apart
then tim comes in and at 9 he figured out who batman and robin were and he was about 13 when he became robin after jason died at 15 so that would make tim 2ish years younger than jason and then 7/8 years younger than dick but we also know that tim saw the flying graysons fall to their death and dick was 8 or 9 when that happened so there’s no way tim could have remembered dick’s flips at such a young age unless he has an eidetic memory or just is hyper focused on those memories because of the trauma of watching people fall to their deaths
and we know cass is a few months older than jason
and steph is older than tim by a year I think?
when damian comes in he’s ten and i think tim is around 16 when that happens (look i can’t remember what is what but stay with me)
so if tim is 16 dick is 24ish which would make dick and damian 14 years apart
oh and babs! she’s older than dick and was originally supposed to be a peer of batmans but then they aged her down and did it like 6 more times so I think they landed on her being 2 years older than dick? ugh. i hate comic timelines
but like, this all seems to make sense right? according to timelines and if you line things up?
but then rebirth happened and i only know that damian is 13 and like, i think i remember seeing something saying that everyone else has been aged down and given like, official birthdays? ugh i don’t know man this shits confusing
sorry for the word vomit
Good thoughts! But sadly, the real answer is “DC will make them whatever age they want.” For example, Tim is currently 16. He’s been sixteen since 2014. However, Damian went from 10 in the n52 to 13 in Rebirth without anyone else being aged up (though I don’t think anyone was aged down any further than they had been in the n52). So…yeah. :) (Also, yes, both in current and previous canon, Steph was about 1 year older than Tim, maybe a few months more, so that she could be 19 and him 17 when she was Batgirl).
Anonymous asked: You should draw Batman!Steph!! I love this AU and I also read one of your fics where Steph is Batman (it was SO good fdkslsdkl) and I would really love to see Batman!Steph in your style :D
Hmm! I personally was expecting 2021, following the 4 year spaces between The Thief and The King of Attolia, instead of the 6 years between The Queen of Attolia and A Conspiracy of Kings.
But two scant years between Thick as Thieves and Return of the Thief? That’s pretty amazing!
I love books. Also films and television and comics and video games, but above all books.
